......As an artist facinated by form, all animal, landscape, architectural studies hold a special love for me. Capturing the true character of my subjects (I think that even a building has soul) is my goal in any new paintings that I take on. Where possible I like to meet my subjects, taking photographs and prelimiery sketches. Once back in my studio, I begin the process of bringing the painting to life. I do this by working in pastels using "under painting"; sometimes in watercolours and acrylics, creating layers of optical mixes and interesting depths of light and colour.
Recently a friend was studying some of my recent work and he asked what I most enjoyed painting, after a brief moment of contemplation I replied "everything"!
As John Ruskin wrote "Paint what you love and love what you paint"....who am I to argue? |
